Description

In recent decades, a growing number of studies have investigated the various health benefits and protective effects of anthocyanins present in numerous fruits and vegetables.

Anthocyanidins are common components of fruits, mainly of edible berries, which provide pigmentation and serve as natural antioxidants. The main therapeutic benefits from anthocyanidins include protecting and maintaining the integrity of antioxidant DNA. Anthocyanidins also serve as anti-inflammatory and antimutagenic agents and provide cardioprotection by maintaining vascular permeability. Studies have shown that supplementation with berries rich in anthocyanins is effective in reducing oxidative stress associated with ageing.

This product is a mixture of pure, dehydrated fruit, which retains the properties of each of the ingredients by using a unique, specialised process of vacuum dehydration of the whole fruit without the need to use high temperature. There are no added compounds that could adulterate the product, so the quality and properties of the entire fruit are respected.

Raspberry (Rubus idaeus) is a fruit known for being rich in polyphenols, anthocyanins, ellagic acid and vitamin C, all of which give it antioxidant power. This fruit also provides high levels of fibre and minerals like potassium, magnesium and calcium.

Blackcurrants and redcurrants are excellent sources of bioactive compounds (such as anthocyanins, flavonols, proanthocyanidins and phenolic acids), and are known for their high content of vitamin C and calcium.

Blueberries are a rich source of phenolic compounds, particularly flavonols, and of anthocyanidins and proanthocyanidins (PAC, A-type proanthocyanidins). They are tannins (stable polyphenols) that are only found in berries as a natural defense system against microbes.

Their ability to prevent urinary tract infections has been evaluated on numerous occasions. These properties are due to their capacity to impede the adhesion of bacteria (mainly Escherichia coli – E. coli) to the urethra, so bacteria can not infect the mucosal surface. Other studies have also shown that blueberries may reduce the virulence of E. coli strains.
